When Wanaki Golf Course in Menomonee Falls was set to close in 2021 due to financial struggles, members of the Save Wanaki Group succeeded in saving it, and it was purchased by a new owner.

One of the goals was for people to be able to use the facility year-round. To that end, food and beverage options were expanded at the course's bar and restaurant, which got a new name. There's now a proposal to construct a building addition which would have golf simulators and a food and beverage area.

How will this addition help people use this golf course in the offseason?

The proposed addition would allow for six permanent, indoor golf simulators. The course had four simulators that are temporarily up in the winter months but are now down. The new simulators would allow for more indoor league play and recreational use.

Will there be anything else in the building addition?

Yes, there will be a food and beverage area with some seating.

How big will the entire building be?

With the building addition of 6,653 square feet, the entire building will be 10,472 square feet.

Where does the addition proposal stand?

The plan commission recommended Wanaki Golf Course's proposal to the village board. The village board is slated to decide on approval May 6.

"I think it is really exciting," Plan Commissioner Paul Tadda said. "To a beautiful property, it will be another exciting draw."

When did Wanaki Golf Course open its bar and restaurant?

After the Storm Family Group purchased the golf course from Waukesha County, they got a liquor license for the facility and opened Turn Bar & Grill, where both golfers and nongolfers can dine.

The Storm Family Group owns and operates Brookfield Hills and Missing Links (Mequon) golf courses. The group also owns Storm's Golf Range in Brookfield
